Croydon In-person · 10mi 20 yrs Joined May 2026

About

I am a specialist SEND tutor with qualified teacher status, a PhD in Education and over 20 year's experience teaching and tutoring children and young people. I have worked as a teacher in schools and specialist units supporting students with autism and social and emotional challenges. I have also been an academic and lecturer in higher education, teaching and researching on issues of equality and inclusion in education. I have worked with undergraduates and postgraduates, including those training to be teachers. I worked as a private tutor alongside my teaching career and am now offering specialist SEND tuition full time.

I offer English and maths tuition at Early Years and Primary level. At Secondary level (including GCSE and A level), I offer English Language, English Literature, Psychology and Sociology. I can also support students with general essay writing skills and study skills. I am particularly experienced in working with students with ADHD, autism and dyslexia. I have also supported students with emotionally based school absence and those who have had to miss school due to mental health challenges.

I am student centred in my approach and always tune in to where a learner is at and what they need. I work creatively and collaboratively with students to find approaches that best meet their needs. Drawing on years of experience, research and training to inform my work, I will build tutoring support that is right for each individual I work with.

Imported from Dr Laura T.'s First Tutors profile before the site went dark. Shown separately from Tutorperch reviews — today they don't feed this tutor's Tutorperch rating or ranking.

How we verify these

Each imported review went through admin review. The tutor proved ownership of the First Tutors profile via one of two paths:

  • Photo match. The First Tutors avatar matched the tutor's identity-verified Tutorperch photo, confirmed by admin.
  • Cryptographic email check. The tutor uploaded an original First Tutors email (.eml). We verified the DKIM signature against First Tutors' signing keys and cross-checked the embedded tutor ID against the claimed profile.

The review text is the original reviewer's own words, quoted as-is. We verified the tutor's ownership of the profile, not the truth of what each individual reviewer wrote.

Laura was informative about her work and flexible about our needs. She was very prompt and our 14 year old was very positive about her input. The reason she is at 4 not 5 stars is that we have only had one session but all indications are positive!

Laura is a superb tutor. I genuinely feel fortunate to have come across her and the finding feels has been money well spent. She is such a creative and patient teacher and has masses of knowledge and clear understanding you simply couldn't get from a uni student doing it on the side. She is able to focus my child who doesn't always have good focus days and unlocked his truer abilities. She has so many ways of teaching the same thing and has gotten him to write a short book with illustrations and great with number bonds to 20, maths and spelling. I was concerned that school were treating him differently but she's able to see that he's good to go and doesn't have any ability issues at all. I love her ethos and academic contributions to teaching. She's excellent and I'd have her everyday if I could.

Very quick response to my enquiry. Very accurate description on the profile. We are extremely happy with Laura, tutoring both in English and Psychology. A very kind, reliable and experienced tutor.

We have been really pleased with Laura as my son's English tutor. She has excellent communication skills, keeping us well informed about his progress and always ensuring lessons are engaging and effective. She is punctual and reliable, which we really appreciate. What stands out most is how well she connects with my son—she is patient, supportive, and adapts each session to his needs and ability. Her flexible approach allows the lessons to incorporate his interests, making learning enjoyable and meaningful for him. Most importantly, he genuinely looks forward to his sessions, which has made a huge difference in his confidence and enthusiasm for English. I highly recommend Laura to anyone looking for a dedicated and skilled tutor!.

My grandson is fifteen and preparing for GCSE’s he is really happy with Laura as a tutor. She engages with him in the tutoring session and has sparked a keenness in him to do well in his English language and literature.

Laura is currently tutoring Mehnaz in English and Philosophy at A-level. Mehnaz has gained more confidence and this has helped her to produce better written work. We would recommend Laura especially if you need a tutor to provide a high level of support for your child.
