Reviews from First Tutors
Imported from James's First Tutors profile before the site went dark. Shown separately from Tutorperch reviews — today they don't feed this tutor's Tutorperch rating or ranking.
How we verify these
Each imported review went through admin review. The tutor proved ownership of the First Tutors profile via one of two paths:
- Photo match. The First Tutors avatar matched the tutor's identity-verified Tutorperch photo, confirmed by admin.
- Cryptographic email check. The tutor uploaded an original First Tutors email (.eml). We verified the DKIM signature against First Tutors' signing keys and cross-checked the embedded tutor ID against the claimed profile.
The review text is the original reviewer's own words, quoted as-is. We verified the tutor's ownership of the profile, not the truth of what each individual reviewer wrote.

James is very reliable and engages well with my child. His lessons are well planned and thought out and my child is able to ask questions and work at a pace which suits them. Feedback from the tutor (to parents/carers) about progress would be useful.

James had been a fantastic support through my son’s revision period. His patience and adaptable approach had supported his learning style, building confidence and consolidating knowledge. Thanks James and fingers crossed for a good grade!

If only we'd had the chance to meet James . I contacted him the day before he was meant to turn up for the first session, saying how much my son was looking forward to it and to check he had the right directions etc. Only to be told that he couldn't make any of the dates agreed - 4 evening sessions, 4 days in a row, during the Christmas break - because he was already working. Completely let us down at the last minute. The only reason we found out was because I reached out to him, otherwise we would've just sat there waiting at the agreed time. I believe that this is completely unprofessional, and really left us in the lurch.

Hi everyone. My primary job is as a Senior Teacher in a school. Unfortunately in this rare instance my school calendar changed and I was required to change my diary. This is a very unusual circumstance.

Although the tutoring that James provided seemed to have been based on solid knowledge of the subject we were surprised about the location of the lesson, which was in a public library. Also after only for lessons together James changed his availability and because of this we could no longer continue with the tutoring. Due to the short period of tutoring I can not comment on whether my son‘s knowledge improved with James‘ tutoring.
James replied
Hi yes tutoring took place in the public library for safeguarding reasons the student’s address being too far for me to get to for tutoring. Yes unfortunately my role within a school changed so I was not able to continue tutoring at this point. I am now unable to do any tutoring for students until June 2020.

Nice teacher, understanding works at a good pace has helped increase my son's confidence.
James replied
Thank you for your feedback Joanne I feel you son has lots of potential which in busy schools might not always be fully identified.
