About Me
Hi, I’m a qualified teacher, experienced Head of Department and senior leader, and I provide personalised tuition for children and young people from Primary school, 11+ through to GCSE and A-Level.
As an outstanding practitioner, tutoring starts with understanding the student as an individual. I know from experience that parents are rarely looking for someone simply to sit beside their child and work through more worksheets. An ideal tutor is able to gaps in learning and creates lessons and opportunities to bridge those gaps and recognise students strengths, build their confidence and know how to move their learning forward. My goal is to ignite the love for learning for every individual I tutor.
That is the approach I bring to every student I teach.
I have extensive experience working with children and young people across a wide range of abilities and needs, including pupils with SEN and additional learning needs. I am also trauma-informed, so I understand that confidence, anxiety, previous experiences of education and a young person's individual circumstances can all affect how they learn.
I combine this understanding with high expectations and evidence-informed teaching. Every student receives a bespoke approach: I identify their starting point, strengths, gaps and goals and use these to create an individual bespoke plan. I then continually adapt lessons according to their progress.
11+ Tuition
11+ is one of my key areas of specialism, and I currently have a 100% success rate with my 11+ students to date.
Preparation can include English, Maths, comprehension, creative writing, verbal reasoning, exam technique, time management and confidence building, depending on the requirements of the schools and examinations your child is preparing for.
I do not believe in putting every child through the same programme. Some children need greater challenge; others have specific gaps that need addressing; some know the content but struggle with timing or exam technique; and others simply need someone to help them believe that they can do it.
I create a bespoke 11+ preparation plan for each child, so our time together is focused on what will make the greatest difference to them. I have supported students to get into Wilsons, Tiffins, Sutton Grammar, Reigate Grammar, Wallington boys and girls, Trinity and many others!
I am target driven and bring this approach to my lessons whilst ensuring there is a balanced focus on wellbeing too.

Depending on each students needs, I focus on closing the gaps in subject knowledge, essay writing, analysis and evaluation, revision, exam technique, assessment preparation and/or developing the skills needed to reach the higher grades.
For students who have lost confidence or feel overwhelmed by a subject, I break learning down into manageable steps and help them understand how to approach the work, rather than simply telling them the answer.
For my more able students, I provide the stretch, challenge and academic guidance needed to take their work further in order to support them in reaching those top grade boundaries.
My Approach
My teaching is evidence-informed, drawing on educational research and my experience as a teacher, Head of Department and senior leader. I regularly assess progress and adjust my teaching accordingly, so that we are always working towards clear and meaningful goals.
I want students to feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and telling me when they do not understand something. My approach is warm, calm and encouraging, but with high expectations of what each young person can achieve. I am target driven as I want each student to succeed, but I do this whilst maintaining a calm and encouraging learning environment.
Ultimately, I want every student to leave tuition with more than the best grades. I want them to become a more confident, independent and capable learner.

I have seen an improvement in my son since he started English tuition. Please follow some kind of syllabus so that all areas of his english can improve such as reading, story writing, comprehension, verbal reasoning etc. So far I am seeing some improvement. Thanks.
