Having worked in a highly academic and prestigious independent school for 11 years, I have a lot of experience in trying to get the very best out of students with a range of abilities.

Tutoring really works when the relationship is strong, built on trust and mutual respect. I believe that by prioritising the individual — tailoring my style to each pupil and their particular skills and needs — each student can begin to propel their own progress. English is a subject so often hampered by a lack of confidence: children and young people, even adults, who have absorbed that it isn’t a subject for them. Perhaps they were never taught the spelling rules so struggled, or maybe they didn’t read at the speed of others.

Whatever the obstacles in their way, I would like to be able to help: the most rewarding work, for me, is one-on-one, whether that’s supporting GCSE pupils with essay-writing at school during lunch, or working individually on comprehension skills with an 11+ candidate.
