About

Hi! I am a current medical student who enjoys and is passionate about learning. I am hoping to help develop a similar love for learning within tutees that motivates them to want to understand what they are learning.

I have experience tutoring IB, (I)GCSE, Scottish Nat 4/5/Highers, KS3, US Grade 9 and more students across various subjects and university applications for medicine, especially with interview practice.

I specialise in tutoring mainly in Biology, Psychology, Chemistry, and Math. I studied the IB, doing Biology, Chemistry and Psychology at Higher Level, and Maths AI, Spanish Ab Initio and English Literature at Standard Level. Having studied the IBDP, I understand the benefit of a good comprehension and understanding so that they can not just work through one subject, but also balance a multitude of subjects and extracurricular activities. This will then provide them with greater critical understanding and knowledge to help them to get to where they want to be academically. I hope to get to know the student so that I can provide specific student-centred tuition that matches the style of teaching and learning as closely as possible to allow the student to learn and understand the material much more effectively and efficiently.

When delivering lessons, I try to make sure they are student-focused and clear. This involves ensuring that the student fully understands what they need to know, how they need to know it, and whether they actually know it. To achieve this, I like to clearly define the learning objectives at the start of every lesson. Then, as we move through each one, demonstrate examples of how the content is used in different contexts. Before clarifying understanding that the student does know it, while boosting their confidence, by using short assessments. This way, the student can see their progress through the regular feedback and reflection and therefore, improve their belief in their ability, and motivation to learn more, ask questions, and be curious. The aim for all students is to get to the stage where they are able to work on their skills and feel confident enough to work independently through questions, scenarios, etc. I believe that getting to this stage requires a supportive environment where each student is able to use different techniques that work best for them, whether that be real-life examples, going through texts/answers together, guided exam questions/problem practice, or simply going over the basics to affirm their base knowledge and confidence. I am here to figure out how best to help!
