About

I am a Spanish teacher, native speaker who is working in a Grammar School as Head of Spanish.
I am from Madrid, Spain and I came to London 16 years ago. I have worked in teaching since I came and I have plenty of experience with students as I am Head of Spanish and also Gifted and Talented coordinator in a secondary school in south west London. I studied Journalism as a degree in Spain, therefore I have plenty of knowledge of literature and history of Spain, very important for A level, especially for essays and IRPs.

I have a good record of excellent results in my key exam groups due to having a deep knowledge and understanding of what the exam boards require in the new specifications. I obtained this good knowledge as I became an external examiner to know first hand what is expected from students.
I know very well EDEXCEL, AQA and Cambridge CIE exam boards so I know perfectly how the IGCSE, GCSE and A LEVEL exams are and how the students need to be prepared before their examination.

My exam results last year were excellent : 98% achieved 9-7 (old grades a*-a) and 53% of that 96 achieved grade 8-9 (old grades A*-A). In A level, I have an excellent record of results where 100% of my students achieved A*-A in 2026.

I have plenty of experience helping student boosting their grades and success in their exams which have been proved in the feedback from parents (please see the feedback section).

Regarding A level, I know perfectly how to help students to obtain the highest scores in their exams as I am an external examiner who marks A level exam for Edexcel and AQA. Due to my performance and expetise, I have become a Lead Examiner where I get involved in deciding the mark schemes and grade boundaries

I have attended numerous workshops for films and literature, besides my knowledge obtained from my Journalism degree and Spanish schooling.
I tailor the lessons according to the students` needs and I teach depending of your child learning style and his/her weakest points. I provide excellent exam techniques that help student to become confident on how to face the exam to be able to aim for the highest marks in GCSE and A level.
I can also provide real materials to reinforce what your child has learned in school or I can introduce new and more elaborated content to boost your child grade to his/her best ability.
With the recent major overhaul of GCSEs and A Levels, it is a great challenge for schools to cover all the course content in class and prepare students thoroughly for the external examinations. With large class sizes and often a lack of individual speaking practice, pupils can lack confidence and not achieve their full potential in their exams or lessons in school. This overwhelm students and could stress them as they may find they have not had enough time or opportunities to prepare themselves for the Speaking Exam or writing skills.

Students usually feel they are not able to succeed in their examinations, but with motivation and focusing in grammar and other skills needed to be able to achieve a good grade.

All of my lessons have been graded outstanding by Ofsted/ISI. Please do not hesitate to get in touch to discuss your child`s educational needs and requirements.

I have tutored students from a variety of schools :
Alleyn’s, JAGS, LEH, Latymer Upper School, Witgift, Dulwich College, City of London Girls School, UCS Hampstead, King Alfred, Ibstok Place School, Winchester College, Emanuel School, St Paul’s Girls, Putney High School, Kings’ College, Graveney School, Tiffin Boys, Tiffin Girls School, Wimbledon High School, City of London Freemens, Nonsuch High School for Girls, Lady Margaret, Grey Coat Hospital, and Esher college, Hampton Boys, Surbiton High School, Ewel Castle school, Marymount, Grey Court school, etc.

I work daily with students in the secondary school and I have also been working as a private tutor since 2013. I am aware of the new GCSE and A level criteria and I know different exam boards criteria such as AQA, Edexcel, OCR..

I provide a variety of authentic resources which are included in the hour’s rate.
I have been described as a friendly, warm and enthusiastic person who gets very well with young people, therefore students do not take tuition as something tedious and boring.
I am a popular tutor with many happy students and parents! (See feedback/ratings).

How we verify these

Each imported review went through admin review. The tutor proved ownership of the First Tutors profile via one of two paths:

  • Photo match. The First Tutors avatar matched the tutor's identity-verified Tutorperch photo, confirmed by admin.
  • Cryptographic email check. The tutor uploaded an original First Tutors email (.eml). We verified the DKIM signature against First Tutors' signing keys and cross-checked the embedded tutor ID against the claimed profile.

The review text is the original reviewer's own words, quoted as-is. We verified the tutor's ownership of the profile, not the truth of what each individual reviewer wrote.

Alexia has been a fantastic support to my daughter in the weeks leading up to her Spanish A level. Alexia is always reliable and communicates well regarding appointments. My daughter, who at times can be a little reticent, looks forward to her lessons with Alexia. Alexia checks with my daughter what she would like covered but also identifies areas where she needs support and prepares for the lessons. Alexia has been brilliant at improving my daughter's confidence and due to Alexia's positive feedback, I think my daughter has really increased her engagement with and enjoyment of Spanish. I cannot recommend Alexia more highly.

    Alexia A. replied

Many thanks Laura for your kind words. It has been a pleasure helping your daughter to become a stronger linguist!

Alexia has been working with my son for the past two years (even throughout lockdown on Zoom) helping him with his GCSE Spanish. His confidence has grown considerably along with his ability and Alexia has helped him in all areas that he will be tested on from speaking, listening, translation, reading and writing. He will definitely achieve a higher grade because of her help. Alexia is very kind and patient, she is very adaptable with lesson times and has never missed a class. I would highly recommend her to anyone.
