About
Hi, I'm Luke. I'm an approachable and relatable tutor, with a teaching style that puts the needs and interests of my students first. I like to make lessons fun and enjoyable, whilst also taking the time to build relationships with each of the young people I interact with. I have been a tutor for over a decade, with extensive experience teaching GCSE maths and science to a huge variety of students with differing needs.
My teaching style is relaxed. I like to work at an easy and informative pace, in order to develop a complete and thorough understanding of subjects. I make my lessons completely personalised, relating the learning to your own hobbies and interests. In our lessons we will go through topics that you are finding difficult, building accurate and interesting notes as we go, that you can later use in revision. We will combine this with past paper attempts and reviews, to give you the exam technique required to get the highest possible grade.
I have a particular passion for helping those with neurodiversity. I was diagnosed with ADHD as an adult and have subsequently developed mechanisms for managing anxiety, work loads and approaches to learning that have enabled my own success in academia. These techniques are applicable to many forms of neurodiversity, and I really enjoy incorporating these tools into my teaching. I have had many students over the years with different degrees of difficulties, from severe anxiety and depression, to developmental diversity like ASD and ADHD. I hold a Level 2 TQUK certificate in Child and Adolescent Mental Health, and use this knowledge combined with my own experience to find the best educational approach for each individual.
As an active and published conservation scientist I have a lot of interesting stories and knowledge to bring to the lesson. I have worked all over the world, in interesting places and with interesting animals; from gibbons in Thailand to killer whales in Iceland. This gives me the unique ability to show my students the real-world applications of your studies, which is essential in fully understanding the point and purpose of learning at GCSE.

Following her mock exams my daughter was predicted to obtain a level 3-4 in her GCSE chemistry. Luke built up a good rapport with her. He is personable and enthusiastic for his subject and was able to communicate the subject well with someone who was finding the subject a struggle.Following his tuition she obtained a level six. I would have no hesitation in recommending Luke as a tutor.

I requested your help because I was really struggling at my GCSE maths. You gave rational advice such as the most sensible things for me to do with so little time left. Your teaching skills are excellent mainly because you asked me to find the answer instead of just telling it to me which helped m to understand and remember. You did a good job at remaining calm when I forgot the basics (Silly of me) and overall definitely gave me the confidence I needed to attempt the harder questions and get the grade I need.

After 3 sessions Georgina has already become a little more confident . Going through old maths papers really has seems to be helping her . I think it's just getting Georgina to believe she is capable and the sessions are definitely helping .

Luke was prompt and punctual, he was friendly and introduced himself. He was keen to discuss with his student what she expected from her sessions. He gained her confidence and forged a good rapport at the first hour lesson. She found his no nonsense approach easy to understand and enjoyable. He listened to her concerns and came up with a plan to help her overcome these. We will be continuing with her sessions.

My son finds it hard to concentrate and focus however Luke's patient approach and the interesting way that he designs and develops the lessons mean that my son has really looked forward to the sessions as says that the two hour slots 'go past in an instant'. He is certainly more enthused and confident as a result of the sessions which I really hope will translate into his school work. I feel that for the quality of tutoring (well thought out, structured but flexible sessions centred on the students needs) that Luke offers represent excellent value for money and I would not hesitate in recommending him.

Luke was an excellent tutor. My daughter found GCSE Physics hard going as the school science department is very understaffed. Although she was predicted an A she felt Physics would let her down. Luke was very helpful and patient. He was always punctual and very knowledgeable about all areas of the syllabus. He also teaches Chemistry, Biology and Maths xx
