About
Qualified Maths, Science & Engineering Tutor | GCSE, A-Level & University
I am a qualified and highly experienced Maths, Science and Engineering tutor, based in Plymouth, offering both face-to-face and online tuition across the UK.
I have been teaching and tutoring since 2007, with over 15 years of experience supporting students at GCSE, A-Level and university level. Alongside private tutoring, I work in Education and have extensive experience in teaching, curriculum development, assessment and academic quality assurance.

I hold a BEng in Metallurgy & Materials Engineering, an MSc in Mechanical Engineering, and a PGCE
I am also a Fellow of the Society for Education and Training (FSET) and have extensive experience as an engineering lecturer, programme leader, assessor and quality reviewer.
Over the years, I have supported students studying with major UK examination boards including AQA, Edexcel and OCR, as well as IGCSE and university programmes.
My Approach to Tutoring
Every student learns differently. I adapt lessons to the student's ability, confidence and academic goals rather than using the same approach for everyone.
My lessons focus on:
Building strong understanding of fundamental concepts
Identifying and addressing gaps in knowledge
Developing mathematical and scientific problem-solving skills
Improving examination technique
Working through past-paper and exam-style questions
Showing students how to gain marks from calculations and written answers
Building confidence and independent learning skills
For GCSE and A-Level students, I place particular emphasis on exam-board-specific preparation and past-paper practice.
Proven Experience
I have taught and tutored students from a wide range of educational backgrounds, including students attending independent schools, state schools, colleges and universities in the UK and internationally.
I have supported students preparing for important GCSE and A-Level examinations as well as learners working towards competitive university admissions.
Many of my students have remained with me for several academic years, and a significant proportion of my tutoring has developed through recommendations and word-of-mouth referrals.

Online lessons are interactive and structured so that students can work through calculations, diagrams, examination questions and problem-solving activities with me in real time.
Whether a student is aiming to catch up, improve their confidence, move to a higher grade or prepare for an important examination, my aim is to provide structured, supportive and academically rigorous tuition that helps them achieve their potential.

My son needed some final prep for Maths and Chemistry GCSE on some specific topics he had struggled with. From his first session, Patrick clicked with Owais immediately, he is very personable. GCSE level Mathematics Owais has been very professional and approachable since the first time we made contact through first tutors. He is always is on time for the planned sessions and sends a reminder email (which I often need!). My son finds Owais' method of teaching clear and he feels confident and relaxed in his presence. Owais will explain a topic as much as is required and sets homework to assess his understanding. I have no doubt that my Son's confidence has improved and will continue to improve regarding his GCSE's.
