Approach to Tutoring:
As an experienced private tutor for over 14 years, I understand that students may often struggle within large school settings. In the first lesson, I start by assessing a new student’s current abilities and grades using my experience and knowledge of the curriculum for English language and literature. Once areas of strengths and weaknesses are established, I support students to develop their confidence through a range of varied tasks.
I often work with students prior to their GCSE exams focusing on exam skills and working through exam style questions. I have experience working with several exam boards including AQA, Eduqas, Edexcel and Cambridge iGCSE. As an English language examiner, I understand the process of marking and how to answer the questions as effectively as possible to maximise marks. Exam skills practice is highly valuable for students in year 10 and year 11. I also work with younger students in KS3 to build confidence, understanding and enjoyment. Occasionally, I work with students preparing for entrance exams.
I find tutoring to be a highly interesting and rewarding occupation; it is always a delight to help students to develop their confidence and skills. A significant majority of my tutees over many years not only pass their exams but find that they improve by several grades.
