Choosing the right tutor is about more than qualifications—it’s about finding someone who understands how students learn and how to build their confidence.

I’m Dee, a qualified English teacher with 15 years’ classroom experience, over a decade as a GCSE examiner, and a former Head of English. Throughout my career, I’ve taught in both one of the UK’s highest-performing state schools and one of London’s most underperforming schools. Those experiences have shown me that successful learning isn’t determined by a student’s starting point—it’s shaped by high expectations, clear teaching and the right support.

As Head of English, I led my department to a 17% improvement in outcomes within a single year by focusing on evidence-informed teaching, effective feedback and making learning accessible for every student.

My lessons are calm, engaging and tailored to the individual. Rather than relying on memorisation alone, I help students understand why techniques work, develop confidence in their ideas and apply their knowledge independently. Whether your child is aiming for a Grade 9, needs support to secure a pass, or wants to rebuild confidence in English, lessons are designed around their specific needs and goals.

Alongside tutoring, my work as a GCSE examiner gives me up-to-date insight into how exam papers are assessed and where students commonly gain—or lose—marks. I use this knowledge to help students develop strong exam technique without losing sight of the bigger picture: becoming confident, thoughtful learners.

I specialise in Key Stage 3 and GCSE English Language and English Literature and work closely with parents to ensure they feel informed and supported throughout their child’s learning journey.
