Laura Chapman
KS3, GCSE and A-Level English Language, English Literature and Media Studies Tutor
About
Hello! I am a qualified secondary English and Media Studies teacher with 15 years experience in the classroom. I have been a Second in English and Curriculum Leader of English and Media Studies where I’ve been responsible for developing a curriculum for all students. My approach is kind and caring - I believe that tutoring and one to one learning is a great way to really focus on an individual student and create a bespoke learning programme to support development.
I have excellent knowledge of the KS3, KS4 and KS5 English curriculum (and Media Studies at KS4 and KS5) and have experience of working with learners of all abilities, including those with SEND. I am able to adapt learning and materials to each individual to support making maximum progress.
I am an avid reader and passionate about my subject - it’s one of the reasons I became a teacher! I love sharing this with students.

I will work with you to assess your strengths and weaknesses and use this knowledge to adapt sessions for you. I will provide sample exam questions which can be completed away from sessions and submitted for feedback to further enhance your learning experience.

Tutoring Sessions:
The sessions will be tailored to the individual needs of each student but are likely to:
- Begin with some retrieval practice to focus on knowledge of texts or key concepts. For English Literature and Media Studies, the better you know a text the more confidently you will be able to write about it.
- Review of any home learning assignments - if practice questions or responses have been submitted we’ll look at weaknesses and focus our attention on developing these.
- Exam practice - this might be planning responses, working on writing a response, unpicking model answers.
