About

Introduction

Hi, I'm Dave 👋 I'm an engaging, relaxed tutor who keeps it personable yet professional. Given my younger age compared to many tutors, I've found I can relate to younger students really well to ensure enjoyable and focused sessions. I enjoy reading and hiking in my spare time, and I'm currently learning a new language!

GCSE English Tutoring

I've been teaching GCSE English for a number of years and I'm experienced in all of the major exam boards - AQA, Eduqas, OCR and Edexcel. I have a deep understanding of the exam mark schemes, and a significant knowledge of the syllabus texts, including (but not limited to): A Christmas Carol, Macbeth, An Inspector Calls, Romeo & Juliet, Jekyll & Hyde, Animal Farm and Lord of the Flies.

In our first lesson together, we will get to know each other a little and discuss any challenges you're facing with GCSE English. From there, we'll create a personalised plan to focus the sessions on what is most supportive to you. I use a combination of high-quality resources and my own experience to help guide students, pointing them in the right direction and helping them with everything from grammar, punctuation and paragraph structure, to in-depth analysis, creative writing and navigating the curiosities of Shakespeare!

I use Zoom Workplace Pro to conduct my tutoring sessions online. This makes it simple - you click a link, and it will redirect you straight to the teaching space. Whilst I have taught in-person in the past, I am sometimes away from home, so online tutoring allows me to stay consistent with tutoring schedules, and allows your child to learn from the comfort of your own home.

Reviews

Past reviews from parents and students include:

"Thank you so much fr all your help and support over the last few months regarding [my child's] English. We have seen a huge improvement in her confidence and she really does enjoy the lessons that you provide. In a way, I wish we had found you a couple of years ago and she may have even improved more." - Parent of Year 11 Student, 2025

"[My child] always spoke highly of you, he said you were always engaged and clear. He felt you really strengthened his writing skills and analytical skills with the literature. I also think he found you relatable and genuine, which is super important for a teenager." - Parent of Year 11 Student, 2026

"I just wanted to let you know that I am over the moon with my grade and I got an 8! I can't thank you enough for all of your help, tthe sessions we had together really really helped and I genuinely wouldn't have been able to get the grade I did without your help, so thank you." - Year 12 Student (GCSE Retake), 2026

"David was incredibly helpful with both English language and literature. His attention to detail and knowledge was superior to my actual English teacher and helped me jump up 4 grades from when I started with him." - Year 10 Student, 2025
