KS2 Verbal Reasoning tutors
1 UK tutor who teach Verbal Reasoning at KS2.
Verbal Reasoning is the 11+ and 13+ subject that schools don't teach but every grammar-school entrance paper and many independent senior-school papers test — vocabulary, word relationships, codes, logic puzzles, sequences. GL Assessment (the dominant 11+ provider, covering ~80% of grammar schools), ISEB Common Pre-Test, Kent, Bucks, Birmingham consortium and CAT4 all include a VR paper, though formats differ — multiple-choice versus standard-format, on-screen versus paper-based. Tutoring helps most with format-specific practice (the question types are learnable; vocabulary load is the long pole) and with timed-paper pace, which determines as much as the underlying ability. Match the tutor to the specific test the child will sit — VR coaching for the Kent Test isn't interchangeable with VR coaching for the ISEB.
Key Stage 2 covers Years 3 to 6 (ages 7-11), ending with the Year 6 SATs in maths, reading, and grammar/punctuation/spelling (SPaG). It's where most primary-to-secondary academic gaps are formed and where tutoring demand peaks at primary level. Year 6 SATs aren't life-or-death but they affect set placement at secondary in many schools, and the reading paper specifically — fast comprehension under time pressure — is where most students lose ground. Tutoring helps most with timed reading practice, with the SPaG technicalities (which are taught explicitly and reward precise terminology), and with the maths reasoning papers. 11+ prep overlaps Year 5 and Year 6.
