About
Professional Profile & Tuition Philosophy
My career spans over five decades of international performance and pedagogy as both a classical and jazz musician. Having performed with leading orchestras across Europe, Scandinavia, and the Arabian Gulf, alongside holding senior academic positions in music conservatoires, colleges, and universities, I now bring this wealth of experience to a select group of dedicated students through private tuition.
As a published author in music education and musical intelligence, my teaching is grounded in a deep understanding of the core cognitive and practical skills essential for mastering any instrument. True musicianship extends far beyond physical mechanics. Utilizing established pedagogies—including my expertise as a Dalcroze practitioner—I focus on developing fundamental musicianship through Eurhythmics and core skill mastery.
I tailor my instructional approach to suit individual goals. Whether lessons are structured and rigorous for those preparing for examinations and conservatoire auditions, or more flexible for hobbyists playing for personal enrichment, my students progress at their own pace. While graded examinations are encouraged, they are never compulsory.

Reviews from First Tutors
Imported from Christopher M.'s First Tutors profile before the site went dark. Shown separately from Tutorperch reviews — today they don't feed this tutor's Tutorperch rating or ranking.
How we verify these
Each imported review went through admin review. The tutor proved ownership of the First Tutors profile via one of two paths:
- Photo match. The First Tutors avatar matched the tutor's identity-verified Tutorperch photo, confirmed by admin.
- Cryptographic email check. The tutor uploaded an original First Tutors email (.eml). We verified the DKIM signature against First Tutors' signing keys and cross-checked the embedded tutor ID against the claimed profile.
The review text is the original reviewer's own words, quoted as-is. We verified the tutor's ownership of the profile, not the truth of what each individual reviewer wrote.

Chris is an excellent saxophone teacher with a wealth of experience gained over more than 50 years. As a complete beginner, I’ve found him extremely patient and clear in his explanations, making learning both approachable and enjoyable. I would definitely recommend him to anyone looking to learn the saxophone.

Thank you for your positive feedback, Mark. Very few students take the time to do this and it is nice to know you appreciate my approach and feel you are progressing with your playing.

Full of enthusiasm and very encouraging. Clearly a very knowledgeable and professional teacher who has a real skill in helping you to believe in your own abilities. Maybe most importantly, a thoroughly nice chap
