About
I’m a native German speaker with 10 years of teaching experience, working with both adult learners and school students. I teach from beginner to intermediate level and also specialise in GCSE German.
My lessons are individually planned around you. Some of my students want support with school or GCSE German, while others are adults learning for work, travel, family reasons or simply because they have always wanted to speak German. I also teach adults who learnt German years ago and would like to pick it up again.
For adult learners, I can help you build confidence in speaking and understanding German while developing your grammar and vocabulary at a pace that suits you. I want you to be able to use the language, rather than simply work through exercises. And don't worry about making mistakes – they are a normal and important part of learning a language!
For school students, I offer friendly, encouraging support with German and can focus on any areas that are causing difficulty. I have extensive experience preparing students for GCSE German, including the new AQA and Edexcel specifications, and can help with speaking, writing, listening, reading, grammar and vocabulary.
I have an eye for detail and quickly recognise a student's strengths as well as the areas that need more attention. My teaching style is patient and supportive, and I adapt my lessons to the individual rather than using the same approach with everyone.
As a native German speaker who has lived in England since 2012, I can explain German clearly in English when needed, while also helping you learn the natural German that native speakers actually use.
Over the years I have helped many students become more confident and fluent German speakers. You can read 21 reviews from my former students and parents on First Tutors, which have been transferred to my Tutorperch profile.
I teach online throughout the UK and face-to-face in and around Cornhill-on-Tweed.
Lessons are 45 minutes and cost £35.
A little about me: I live in England with my British husband, our bilingual daughter and our little dachshund. German and English are both very much part of everyday life in our home

How we verify these
Each imported review went through admin review. The tutor proved ownership of the First Tutors profile via one of two paths:
- Photo match. The First Tutors avatar matched the tutor's identity-verified Tutorperch photo, confirmed by admin.
- Cryptographic email check. The tutor uploaded an original First Tutors email (.eml). We verified the DKIM signature against First Tutors' signing keys and cross-checked the embedded tutor ID against the claimed profile.
The review text is the original reviewer's own words, quoted as-is. We verified the tutor's ownership of the profile, not the truth of what each individual reviewer wrote.

My child is dyslexic and has always found confidence a challenge, especially in academic subjects. She really enjoys doing well but can struggle when she feels unsure or out of her depth. Steffi has been fantastic at keeping her engaged and giving her the support she needs to succeed. Since starting lessons with Steffi, my child has been enjoying German much more and is feeling more confident in her abilities. It’s made a real difference to see her feeling positive about learning. With the step up to GCSEs coming in September, I was worried that the jump from Year 9 to Year 10 might take the enjoyment out of the subject. But with Steffi’s help, I feel confident that she’ll manage the transition well and keep enjoying her German lessons.
Mrs Steffi R. replied
Thank you so much for your kind and thoughtful feedback Nikia. I am really happy to hear that your daughter is enjoying German and that she is feeling more confident. I'm looking forward to all the progress still to come.

Steffi is a gifted and enthusiastic teacher. Trying to revive my rudimentary German on my own proved too difficult and I almost gave up, but Steffi has saved the day.
Mrs Steffi R. replied
Thank you very much for your lovely feedback Colette. I so appreciate you taking the time to share your experience. And I am glad you haven't given up on learning German.

Steffi has been fantastic, she has helped my son with his controlled assessments for his GCSE. He has gained immense confidence in both writing and speaking German. Her approach brings the best out in him and he is no longer frustrated with German, even looking forward to his tutoring. I intend to keep the sessions going so that he can improve his reading and listening grades. I would gladly recommend Steffi to anyone looking for a German tutor.

I required a text to be checked for my German writing exam and asked a few tutors if they could mark my work. Steffi was very quick to reply and not only but she marked it so perfectly! Someone else had marked my work as well but Steffi made far more corrections! I truly recommend her! I myself will be keeping in touch to have lessons.
Mrs Steffi R. replied
Thank you very much Olympia. If you need any more help I am happy to hear from you. Best luck for your exam.
