English, French, German and Theatre Lessons in Harrow
About
Highly experienced, working languages and theatre studies teacher/examiner. Teaching up to and including A level: English literature and language, French, German and Theatre Studies.
100% grades A*-C for GCE and grades 4-9 for GCSE, with 80% of tutees consistently reaching the upper bands. All levels catered for. DBS checked.
As I am qualified and experienced to teach four subjects: English literature and language, Drama/Theatre Studies, French and German, up to and including A level, I am in a position to offer students on alternate weeks tutoring in two or three subjects if required.
I have been teaching at secondary and university level for over 30 years, my secondary school experience ranges from state schools to grammar to prestigious independent. I am an Edexcel GCE examiner, have been widely published in modern foreign language education, exile and theatre studies and hold upper threshold status. I have lived and worked in Switzerland and France; I completed part of my degree at Toulouse University and in Paris trained as a Berlitz EFL teacher. Although I am trained to teach at secondary level in the UK, in recent years I have had great success preparing students for 11 and 13 plus English exams; one such student won the English scholarship to attend Harrow public school.
In terms of tutoring , the majority of my tutees are GCSE and A leveI students but I am happy to teach all ages and abilities. At present my youngest tutee is 8 and preparing for 11 plus exams and my oldest is 90 and enjoys learning French and German with me!
Friendly, professional and dedicated. I enjoy teaching all ages and abilities and prefer to nurture long working relationships with tutees and their parents over a year or more. The majority of my current tutees are siblings whose families I have known for a number of years.
Lessons are created to meet the exact requirements of the examining board the student is following and or their precise learning needs. Students with special needs and or English not as a first language can also be catered for.
I like to make skills that may seem difficult to acquire , easy and broken down into manageable chunks. Power points, interactive exercises, games, worksheets, discussions, scaffolding exercises, modelled answers and opportunities for the tutee to critique and mark their own work with me are all given as is homework unless not requested.
I teach week day evenings and Saturdays via Zoom or in person at my home in Harrow.
In the first instance parents should email me to arrange a time to discuss how I can help their child. Testimonials, qualifications, DBS and proof of upper threshold status are available on request.

How we verify these
Each imported review went through admin review. The tutor proved ownership of the First Tutors profile via one of two paths:
- Photo match. The First Tutors avatar matched the tutor's identity-verified Tutorperch photo, confirmed by admin.
- Cryptographic email check. The tutor uploaded an original First Tutors email (.eml). We verified the DKIM signature against First Tutors' signing keys and cross-checked the embedded tutor ID against the claimed profile.
The review text is the original reviewer's own words, quoted as-is. We verified the tutor's ownership of the profile, not the truth of what each individual reviewer wrote.

I would like to say that I’m very glad to have found Monica to tutor my son for English. It was her profile and parent reviews that appealed to me. I was looking for somebody who had many years experience and an examiner. She’s very polite and works around the students needs. My son had his first lesson and from that she spotted his strengths and weaknesses. She’s also set the materials needed for study including book titles. My son is very pleased that I found Monica and feels confident at passing. He’s in year 10 right now and my advice yo parents is, don’t leave it to the last few months before the exam to find a tutor. Monica is also very considerate of her students needs. She’s the “ perfect English teacher “. : )
Monica replied
Dear Mrs Anwar, Thank you so much for your very kind feedback. Your son is a very intelligent young man and I am certain that he will do very well indeed. It is a pleasure teaching him. With very kind regards, Monica
