About

As a professional musician & multi-instrumentalist who has been performing live for over 2 decades in various successful original & cover bands, I've gained experience in many musical fields. Including composing, performing, recording & producing music, I have spent time with bands in rehearsal & recording studios using industry standard equipment & processes while serving more of an engineer & producer role.

I own and run a mobile recording service for bands and artists to give an alternative solution to expensive studio recording. We travel to rehearsal or recording space with our own quality gear, record your session, mix your music and deliver a final mix, all for an affordable price.

I am currently in a Beatles tribute as George Harrison and play live shows around London on a regular basis.

Acting as a session player for bands has encouraged me to become a more rounded musician, a more confident performer & a more tasteful & creative player, playing to compliment each individual song. This has led to being booked to play at some prestigious venues including The Cavern Club (Liverpool), Dingwalls (Camden, London), Fairfield Halls (Croydon, London), Old Trafford (Manchester, Lancashire) & The Trump Tower (Istanbul, Turkey). Having a residency with Young's & Co. Brewery has contributed a lot & allowed me to perform in front of thousands of new faces over the years. A highlight has been working with record producer Charlie Hugall (Florence & The Machine/Ed Sheeran/Kaiser Chiefs) at The Dairy Studios in Brixton while playing guitar for the No More Navigators & performing with Matthew Jure A.K.A Day V Lately who are signed to record label Tactal Hots Music.
“…a very reliable & responsive teacher… "

I have been a private music tutor for the past 15 years. Specialising in Guitar, both electric & acoustic, as well as the Ukulele & traveling all over the London, Surrey & Kent areas. Working with individuals & group sessions, I have a gained a great deal of experience teaching people of all age groups & ability levels, specifically at Kemnal Technology College, Sidcup, Kent, while I was the school's in-house Guitar tutor.

I take a lot of enjoyment from playing music & I am always enthusiastic about teaching my students how to have fun as well as to improve their playing.

I have worked as a music tutor and a recording studio engineer for studios in London, teaching young people how to work within the music industry and the studio environment. I planned and ran music workshops in the studio and in Young Offenders Institutions around London. The idea of the workshops was to help young people express their thoughts and feelings through music. Participants would learn different ways of making music from songwriting to music recording studio skills and creating music tracks.
“… friendly, encouraging & skilled, always prompt & generous with his time…”

My approach to lessons is always relaxed & informal. Lesson topics are normally directed towards your own personal areas of interest, with an emphasis on teaching you practical applications of the techniques you learn, since the goal is to learn to play music, understand it & hopefully, have fun at the same time.

As well as teaching instruments, it is my intention to give all of my students a greater understanding of how music works, & therefore a greater appreciation for it.

To coincide with lessons, I also keep a record of your progress so that together we can work towards improving your playing & not using lesson time just for practice.

Many students feel that a weekly lesson arrangement does aid them to keep focused & progress steadily, although it is not necessarily essential. Whereas children will often benefit from frequent weekly rather than fortnightly lessons since the structure & constant support of these sessions help keep them on track.

How we verify these

Each imported review went through admin review. The tutor proved ownership of the First Tutors profile via one of two paths:

  • Photo match. The First Tutors avatar matched the tutor's identity-verified Tutorperch photo, confirmed by admin.
  • Cryptographic email check. The tutor uploaded an original First Tutors email (.eml). We verified the DKIM signature against First Tutors' signing keys and cross-checked the embedded tutor ID against the claimed profile.

The review text is the original reviewer's own words, quoted as-is. We verified the tutor's ownership of the profile, not the truth of what each individual reviewer wrote.

Sure! Here’s a concise and positive review for the guitar tutor: We are grateful for Matthew and his fantastic approach to teaching guitar. He has tailored lessons to my daughter’s interests, making learning both enjoyable and engaging. Rather than focusing on exams, he has helped her develop a true love for playing by incorporating her favorite songs while also ensuring she learns essential techniques and fundamentals. His patience, encouragement, and ability to adapt to her needs have made a huge difference. Highly recommend!

    Mr Matthew H. replied

Thank you so much, Thilan. I really appreciate your thoughtful feedback. It’s been a real joy working with Dimiti. Online lessons can be challenging at times, but she has such a great attitude towards learning, and seeing her connect with the music she loves has been fantastic. She's making wonderful progress. I’m excited to see where she takes it!

Matthew is an excellent teacher. He has kindled the passion in my son to learn and practice guitar regularly. He is very prompt on his timings and schedule. He takes a keen interest in my kid's interests. Would highly recommend him.

    Mr Matthew H. replied

Deepa, thank you so much for your kind words, they really mean a lot. Nivan has been an absolute pleasure to teach. His enthusiasm shows in every lesson, and I’m so pleased to see how much he enjoys learning and playing. He smashed his Grade One exam first try and in such a short amount of time too… Long may it continue!

Matthew was a great tutor! He was very friendly and supportive. He even took the effort to get me a better ukulele from what I had. I took lessons from him during the pandemic and unfortunately couldn’t continue for long due to personal problems but the lessons I did have with him were great fun and I picked up songs pretty fast! He’s patient and gets you to list out your fav songs so that he has an idea about your likes and teaches you accordingly.

    Mr Matthew H. replied

Atashi, thank you. I'm grateful for your feedback. It was a strange time during the pandemic, that's for sure. I just hope the few lessons we had helped in some way, no matter how small. You certainly picked it up quickly and showed great progress in a short amount of time. Hopefully you're still enjoying playing your new Uke!

I bought lessons for my husband who was an absolute beginner and Matthew made it such an enjoyable experience. He really considered my husband’s music taste to tailor the lessons. Matthew is so passionate and experienced (not to mention patient); I would recommend him to anyone.

    Mr Matthew H. replied

Thank you for your kind words Nicola, it certainly doesn't go unappreciated. And thank you for actually following up your friend's recommendation and finding me, it has been my absolute pleasure. I do hope Chris continues to find time to play and reignite his passion for guitar!

Having been messed around slightly by another guitar teacher I made contact with Matthew and am very glad I did so. He's extremely knowledgeable, patient, and good at explaining things. I'd picked up my guitar again three years ago for the first time in many years (no prizes for guessing why!) and started re-teaching myself as best I could. I was making ok progress, but at the beginning of January I realised if I was going to do this seriously I needed to get a good teacher. Using the internet to try and learn is all well and good, but nothing beats actual face to face interaction with someone who is an excellent musician, knows what they're talking about, and can show one on the spot what to do, where one is going wrong, and how to get it right. I am more than happy to recommend Matthew to anyone who is thinking of taking the plunge and getting serious about getting better on the guitar. I've pretty much only played acoustic guitar in my life so far, but at some stage I want to start properly on electric and I know that Matthew will be just as accomplished in that area as well.

    Mr Matthew H. replied

It's been my absolute pleasure Jonathan but thank you so much for the positive comments. Teaching someone who knows what they want and their goal, keeps me on my toes! I see your progress every week and your consistency with practice shows. Keep doing what you're doing and we will certainly get you here you want to be. All the hard work pays off, so keep it up!

Matthew has taught my son (10 years) for a term so far now (and we intend to continue next term too). It has been a really positive experience, Matthew was very quick to put my son at ease and adapt his teaching style to my son’s needs. He has also travelled to us and is flexible and very easy to deal with. My son is very much enjoying the ukelele, thanks to Matthew’s excellent teaching!

    Mr Matthew H. replied

Thank you so much Melissa. Your feedback is truly appreciated. I am glad Matty enjoys our lessons together which I hope he will continue to do so. Keep up the good work!

Matthew replied immediately to my message and was so accommodating in finding a slot in his schedule for lessons to begin quickly. Is is so kind and genuine and also patient and highly skilled. He has given advice about instruments and equipment and has been on time for every session so far. I can't recommend him highly enough!

    Mr Matthew H. replied

Susie, thank you so so much for the positive feedback, it means so much. Christina has shown great progress in such a short time… even with a broken wrist! If that is anything to go by, we'll be flying through tunes like never before once you're back to 100% - keep up with the practice, it all pays off!

Matthew has really helped ignite our daughter's passion for music and the ukelele specifically. He makes the sessions fun and builds them around the music that she enjoys listening to. She really looks forward to the sessions and they have a good rapport together. He really seems to communicate with her at the right level. Would highly recommend.

    Mr Matthew H. replied

It's been an absolute pleasure Eileen. Eleanor has been a dream to teach. She's made a huge amount of progress in very little time. The fact she continues to play and practice consistently during the week all on her own shows. She's doing fantastically well! All the hard work pays off, keep it up!

Matthew is an amazing music teacher. My daughter is loving her Ukulele lessons. He is a very talented, responsive, supportive and approachable teacher. I can highly recommend Matthew as a music teacher, online zoom lessons have worked very well!

    Mr Matthew H. replied

Thank you so much for your feedback Susan. Lola has picked the Ukulele up so quickly and the fact we've done this solely online has shown me it can be done. She's obviously a natural! She is on course to have a dozen songs under her belt in no time. Looking forward to all of our future virtual lessons together. Keep up the practice, it all pays off in the end!

I bought a set of guitar lessons with Matthew for my boyfriends birthday having also got him a new guitar. Matthew was excellent. Really friendly and professional and certainly knows his stuff. Matthew helped him understand the theory as well as techniques for learning some of his favourite songs. Matthew tailors the sessions and music to individual needs and song choices. I’d highly recommend Matthew to anyone.

Matthew is a wonderful teacher, he is patient and passionate, most importantly Matthew knows how to keep my daughter interested in learning by asking in advance the songs she likes and would like to learn. I am so pleased to say that after three lessons only, my 10 years old daughter is able to play the intro for Nothing Else Matters. Strongly recommend Matthew!

    Mr Matthew H. replied

Thank you for the kind words, Wei, I really appreciate them. Maggie is a wonderful student and I am looking forward to seeing her progress further. She's has the ability to be a truly impressive and well-rounded guitarist, let's try to get her there! Keep it up!

He is a very clear communicator and his teaching style is methodical and structured whilst also being fun and allowing for creativity! We would highly recommend Matthew as a teacher!

    Mr Matthew H. replied

Thank you for the feedback Chiara, I really do appreciate your positive comments. Excellent work so far, hopefully Red will continue to find time to practice, it's all worth it!

  • Gavin

Matt has been guitar tutor after I decided to pick up the guitar again after 15 years out! My interest has been in fingerpicking and he has been patiently teaching me songs grounded in solid theory. I have had 3 months of the lesson and not once has he canceled or been late to visit for my lesson. I feel much more comfortable with approaching tricky Beatles melodies. Matt's style is patient and reassuring which I appreciate. I would recommend to anyone looking for a patient and solid tutor.

    Mr Matthew H. replied

Thank you Gavin, your words are greatly appreciated. Even with 15 years out of playing guitar, you've made excellent progress, quickly. It is all down to regular practice and learning to play songs you enjoy. Keep up the fantastic work.
